When all that's left is to come home

It took me about a week and a half to decide I'd spend the Fall semester of 2009 down in Florida working in the Disney College Program. I left in August in a Jeep Commander that had just enough room for it's three passengers, no wasted space. I then spent the next six months working in Downtown Disney.
It felt like giving up on friends and family cold turkey style. I had tons of support from everyone, and I knew once I was down there I'd love it, which I did. However I never got to come home at all for those six months, which was a new experience all on it's own. The longest I've been away from my home is about two weeks.
Once in September, October, and November I had friends or family come down to visit me. Maybe this is why I never got home sick. People had asked me numerous times when I was down there, and since I've been home if I missed being home, and besides Christmas time, the answer was honestly a "not really." Sometimes I lied because really, doesn't that sound horrible to say? "No, I don't miss my family at all!" When really, if you'd known my schedule, there really wasn't time to sit around and miss people. It was a fast-paced, go-somewhere-get-things-done kind of lifestyle. And if I weren't running around I just wanted to sleep!
So what happens when all this time has gone by and you've managed to stay in touch with as many people as possible through your phone and facebook. Are you worried things may be completely different when you get back? A lot can happen in six months...
But it's amazing how true of a test that is for a friendship. I'd like to say I'm extremely proud of the friends I've seen in the first week I've been home and every time it's like I've been gone for a week or two. No awkward moments where you're not sure what to talk about, or afraid you can't ask if someone is still dating that jerk from two months ago. It's like an invisible bond between the two, or three of us that instantly connects once we're together. No amount of time or distance can ever change that, and for whatever doubts crossed my mind in the twenty hours I drove home, they are forever gone.

  1. You use some great images and colors to make this blog visually appealing, but here are a few suggestions. The font size of the text is really hard to read; you run the risk of alienating readers because of this issue. See if you can make the title of your blog stand out a bit better; it gets somewhat lost in the image. Make sure paragraph breaks are obvious to your readers. Make sure to stay focused on one idea, so that your reader can follow the direction of your post. Cutting out some of your wordiness and adding more detail might help engage readers.

  2. I love the pictures you have and the unique colors, I love photography! And great choice on the story... I also moved to Florida for 5 months for my job a couple of years ago and can honestly say... I had the exact same reaction! I missed my family and friends but was so unbelievably busy that it seemed like i didn't have time to get homesick! Crazy how that happens! But Disney sounds like a great experience and a lot of fun, congrats!
